This article will guide you through the steps of pairing your Nanit camera with a phone or tablet. You’ll learn how to sign into your Nanit account, add a camera, pair Bluetooth, connect Nanit to your Wi-Fi network, and properly position your baby’s crib.
Before you begin
- Make sure your phone or tablet is compatible with the Nanit app.
- Install the latest version of the Nanit app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on your phone or tablet, and connect to your preferred Wi-Fi network. For best results, make sure you have strong wireless signal strength on your device.
- Choose a setup location for Nanit and your baby’s crib. For an optimal connection, we suggest having a router or Wi-Fi repeater/extender on the same floor as the nursery and within 20' of Nanit.
1. Sign into your Nanit account
If you don’t have a Nanit account, open the Nanit app and tap 'Register' to create one for free. Note that we will send you a confirmation email to verify the email address linked to your account.
If you already have an account, click the sign in button.
2. Add a camera
This is my first Nanit camera:
- Tap 'Set up your Nanit now'.
- Choose your Nanit.
- Follow the Nanit assembly instructions by tapping Continue with Assembly.
If your Nanit’s already set up, tap 'I already assembled my Nanit'.
I’m setting up an additional Nanit camera:
- Tap the Settings tab near the bottom-right corner of the Nanit app.
- Tap 'Add/Replace camera', then tap 'Set up your Nanit'.
- Choose your Nanit.
- Follow the Nanit assembly instructions by tapping 'Continue with Assembly'.
If your Nanit’s already set up, tap 'I already assembled my Nanit'.
3. Pair Bluetooth
- Locate and press the pairing button on the back of the Nanit camera.
- When Nanit’s night light begins to flash, tap 'Confirm night light is flashing'.
- The Nanit app will then attempt to pair with your Nanit camera.
If your Nanit camera fails to connect, see our troubleshooting steps here.
4. Connect to Wi-Fi
Now Nanit is ready to connect to your Wi-Fi network.
Note: Nanit will automatically enter the network name for the Wi-Fi network you’re currently connected to.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password.
- Select the Security Type, as defined by your router configuration.
- If you’ve configured a hidden network, tap the 'This network is hidden' toggle.
- Tap 'Next'.
If your Nanit camera fails to connect, see our troubleshooting steps here.
5. Position your crib
- In order for Nanit to properly monitor your visits, be sure to leave about 10-12 inches of view space alongside the crib. We call this the “Parent Pickup Zone”. You can drag the dotted line between the Parent Pickup Zone and crib interior until it is aligned with the crib’s front bar.
Note: The Parent Pickup Zone line must fall within the allowed margins, which are between 10-25% of the image area.
If you’re still having trouble lining up the Parent Pickup , you can also adjust Nanit’s camera angle by loosening the knob behind the camera and tilting or pivoting the camera. Be sure to tighten the stand when finished. - Once the cot area is properly positioned, tap 'Check Crib/Cot Positioning'.
- Nanit will then let you know if it can see the whole cot.
If you’re having trouble positioning your baby’s crib, see our guide here.
6. Add your child
- Enter your child’s name, gender, and birth date.
If your baby hasn’t arrived yet, you can skip this step by tapping 'Skip >' near the lower-right corner of the screen. - If your baby was born prematurely, we’d like to know the week of delivery. This information allows us to improve the accuracy of Nanit’s reporting.
- Tap 'Save'.
7. About you
We’d like to know your relationship to the child, so we can personalise your tips and notifications.
Choose your relationship to the child, then tap 'Save'.
8. App walkthrough

If you’re already familiar with the Nanit app, tap 'Skip >'.

9. Set up Nanit Insights
Every Nanit comes with a free 30 day trial of Nanit Insights. By supercharging your Nanit with Nanit Insights, you’ll gain access to:
- Sleep Tracking and Analytics
- Night Time-lapse
- Activity Feed
- Collaboration & Sharing tools
If your baby hasn’t arrived yet, you won’t be asked to set up Nanit Insights. Instead, you can activate your trial at a later time from the Settings tab. Simply tap the camera you’d like to activate your trial on, then tap 'Subscription plan'.
If you’re using the Nanit multi-stand, Nanit won’t be able to collect smart analytics, so we suggest tapping 'Activate later' and saving your trial until you begin to use the wall mount.
10. Allow notifications
Your Nanit camera can send you alerts when it detects a specific level of motion and sound, when your crib is not properly positioned, or when the temperature of your baby’s nursery becomes too hot or cold. To receive these notifications on your phone or tablet, you must provide the app with permission.
