If you're unsure if you need a replacement brake assembly or just some general maintenance to improve performance follow the steps below.
Please note if you can see your brake cable as snapped or if the below troubleshooting doesn't resolve the issue then you will need a complete replacement brake assembly.
Back wheels feeling stiff?
Then liberally apply a grease lubricant to the wheel pins. See below for example of “liberally” applying grease – the wheel and socket should be visibly “greasey”
If you don’t have a grease lubricant, you can use a product like Vaseline. Please note spray lubricants (like WD40, Silicone Spray) aren’t as effective on wheel pins or may only offer temporary relief. Which is why we recommend using a grease lubricant.
Brake jammed on completely
- The brake cable needs a clear path. Ensure this is not caught up on the frame or hand brake as this can cause the brake to jam so it can't be released.
- Check cable hasn't pulled out of hand brake.
- Tighten screw if loose
