Please note there are two brakes on the summit X3. Foot brake (stop/stationary brake) and hand brake (slow down/running brake). Important to note that the hand brake is red brake that looks similar to a bicycle brake on the top handlebar and is not the swivel lock on the side of the handlebar.

Foot brake/stationary brake
If your summit X3 foot brake is feeling stiff, not engaging/releasing or not performing normally see below some basic troubleshooting to assess where the issue might be.
- Remove both rear wheels by pressing the wheel release buttons and flip the stroller upside down to easily assess the brake pins.
- Check inside of wheel and wheel socket for dirt/debris that could be preventing the brake pin engaging with the wheel.
- Check the brake pins are extending and retracting normally on both sides. Apply a spray lubricant (WD40/Lube Rice/Silicone Spray) to the brake pin - ensuring that step 2 has been followed first and the area is clean.
- Check the middle of the pins are also moving freely and evenly on both sides. Clean and apply lubricant to the moving parts.
- Lastly if this doesn't resolve the issue check the long pins appear straight. This can be easier to see if the stroller is turned back right way around.

Hand brake/slow down brake
If you're experiencing and issue with the hand brake of your summit X3, for example the brake isn't engaging or only engaging on one side or causing a squeaking noise then perform the following troubleshooting:
1. Check the cable is not caught or tangled from top to bottom on the stroller.
2. Remove the wheels and check the brake pads appear in good condition.
3. Ensure when you put the rear wheels back onto the stroller they are firmly clicked in. This can be easier to do while pressing the wheel release button.
The wheel can appear to be attached but not fully clicked in - this will prevent the brake pad from gripping the wheel
