- If your pram or stroller isn't steering smoothly, front wheels are getting jammed or feeling like they're dragging or sluggish to push there are a few general maintenance checks that resolve the vast majority of issues we see across all prams and strollers relates to front wheel performance.
If the feeling is coming from the back of the stroller, or there's a clicking sound, there may be a brake related issue to assess separately to the front wheels.
However it's a good idea to get into the routine of going through the below every 3-6 months depending on how frequently you use your stroller as well as the surfaces you're walking on.
- Remove Front and Rear wheels - Remove any dirt/grit/debris from the wheels and also wheel socks on the frame. Check for any signs of damage.
- Apply grease lubricant (Petroleum Jelly - ie Vaseline) to the wheel pins. See below how much grease we recommend applying.
- Check front wheel axels for hair or string If the front wheel(s) feel like they're dragging, sluggish or not spinning properly, is to check for hair or string wrapped around the front wheel axel. Carefully untangle/remove this with a thin tool like tweezers. When the wheel is completely clear from any grit or debris apply a lubricant (you can use a spray lubricant for the wheel) See below where to check and apply lubricant on both sides of both front wheels.
When you've completed the above checks test your stroller with normal use (ie weight in the seat and walking normally with the stroller) I've attached a quick video showing the difference lubrication, and then weight, can make to front wheel movement.
